Customer satisfaction was significantly increased.

Printed Electronics: EMI Shielding for 5G mobile phone components

In 2017, a well-known German material group with a focus on precious metal processing was looking for an application for a silver-containing ink. Our task included analyzing the performance of this ink and finding a suitable application based on the size of the business case, the possible timing to market entry, and the cost-effectiveness for large-scale introduction and production, depending on the analysis results. The electromagnetic shielding of components of future 5th generation (5G) mobile devices has been identified as a suitable business case. Due to the higher data transmission frequencies, significantly higher data rates and shorter latency times (transmission time from the control system to the controlled system, e.B. in the context of a remote/teleoperation in which the movements of a surgeon are transmitted to a spatially remote surgical robot) can be achieved, which however leads to electromagnetic overlays and interference between the individual chips of a mobile phone. The metal/sheet boxes used so far are no longer usable due to the increasing miniaturization of the components and must be replaced by a shielding technique that shields each component conformally.

The new precious metal ink does exactly this with the lowest possible use of precious metals (minimum consumption cost minimization) and can be applied by a new inkjet application method introduced into this market segment precisely where a shielding of the component is really necessary. Also new for the material group was the bundling of production hardware (inkjet printer) and consumable (precious metal ink) into a product and service bundle in which the customer is offered a complete offer as part of a "one-stop shop" strategy. Precisely this point is extremely valuable for achieving a short time-to-market and has not yet been successfully implemented on a large scale in the history of Printed Electronics.

Support of startup in security services

The task in this project included an analysis of the existing hardware and software platform of a startup whose vision is better and AI-based monitoring of objects with mobile and stationary sensors. The result of the joint discussions was a radical change in the hardware development strategy: Instead of an in-house development of the mobile sensor carriers, which would have cost several million euros, after an analysis of the existing components on the market, a strategy was put forward that enables the various interested security companies to quickly present a resilient and modular proof-of-concept. This allows for much faster market access and revenue generation to finance next generation hardware development.

Innovation Management Database

The non-process- or software-supported development of innovations is no longer the norm, especially in larger companies. Structured stage-gate processes are often introduced, but their documentation is usually inconvenient, bureaucratic and impractical in practice. There are hardly any suitable software tools to document such processes. Here we help you with a solution tailored to your needs. It consists of a relational database based on MS Access, network- and multi-user-enabled, and can be customized to meet your needs. The task within this project in the field of pharmaceutical ingredients included the creation of a flexible database solution, which enables a team of about 10 developers and adjacent business functions to document product development based on the development process already defined by the customer and link it to comprehensive other data sources.

Re-structuring of a service company

A service company was preparing a transfer of business. The new employees were accustomed to a conservative corporate culture, but the company relied on agility and digitalization. In parallel with the merging of cultures, a re-organisation to adapt capacity was an additional challenge. A change program with different communication measures, which was strongly geared to the needs of the employees, facilitated the arrival in the new culture. A fact-based plausibility of capacity planning supported the agreement with the employer representatives in the context of the reorganization.
